Gretchen and Cricket

We give the gift of independence and increased self-reliance to people living with disabilities that significantly impact their mobility. Our highly-skilled service dogs assist our clients with daily tasks and partner with them to live life with renewed confidence.

Important Partnerships and Support

Through innovative partnerships with community organizations and volunteers, Summit carefully selects and trains dogs to assist with tasks that allow their partners to lead lives of greater independence. These tasks might include retrieving dropped objects, opening and closing doors, turning lights on and off or retrieving an emergency telephone.  Perhaps even more important, our dogs help diminish depression, anxiety and loneliness by providing unconditional love and companionship.

Since 2010, an integral part of our program includes working with inmates at the Monroe Correctional Complex who provide care and training for many of our dogs. While providing a great benefit to our organization and clients, animal programs operating in prisons have also been proven to reduce the rate of recidivism, thereby providing a significant benefit to society in general.

Thanks to the support and generosity of countless donors throughout the years, Summit has graduated many successful partnerships between highly skilled dogs and people living with disabilities.  We do not charge our clients for their dogs, although we ask that they help support Summit to the extent they are able.  Summit receives no government funding and relies solely on the support of individual donors, corporations and foundations.
