What Summit Dogs Do
Summit trains mobility assistance dogs to help people with various mobility challenges by retrieving dropped items, turning lights on and off, opening doors, tugging off clothing, and many other tasks to assist with the activities of daily living, increasing safety and independence, and providing companionship.
Summit is proud to be fully accredited by Assistance Dogs International. Service dogs have legal access to most public places where pets generally are not allowed.
Who Qualifies
Summit accepts service dog applications from people located within the Pacific Northwest who have sustained injuries or are affected by conditions that significantly impact their mobility. Dogs will only be placed with a client (or their parent or legal guardian) that has sufficiently demonstrated the ability to care for their dog financially, physically, and emotionally in a safe and stable environment.
Please note:
Summit does not train dogs for people needing assistance with Counterbalance, Autism, PTSD, Anxiety/Depression, Dementia, Seizures, other medical alerts, or hearing and vision disabilities. We currently do not train facility, therapy, ESA, or personal dogs. We currently only serve the Pacific Northwest region of the US and Canada (Washington state, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia). If you are located outside of our region or looking for the types of assistance listed here, please visit Assistance Dogs International for other organizations and resources.
